Pomade is a type of creamy hair styling product and is an alcohol-free alternative to gel, providing a flake-free texture. It comes in water-based or oil-based formulas – the difference between the two is that one washes out easier, while the other stays for longer. The water-based formula is water-soluble, meaning that formula breaks up when introduced to water and washes out pretty easily the next time you take a shower. Oil-based formulas have a greasier feel and appearance because they contain ingredients like beeswax, petroleum, and lanolin. By heating up the pomade, it becomes more pliable and easier to use on your hair. For a more natural look, use pomade in dry hair and for a shinier, slicker look, apply to wet hair.
